The Joint Venture will be the first manufacturer of butyl rubber in India and the fourth largest supplier of butyl rubber in the world.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and SIBUR, Russia and Eastern Europe's largest petrochemical company have agreed to form a joint venture named Reliance Sibur Elastomers Private Limited to produce 100,000 tons of butyl rubber per year in Jamnagar, India.

Squadron Leader Ramakant is all set to break a national record of longest Para-motor flight,

He will start his journey from Mundra in Kutch and cover the Bay of Kutch and land in Jamnagar, will fly total distance of about 55 km.

Para-motor is an ultra light flying machine , many also calls this as powered paraglider. This machine will be mounted on the back of the pilot, who will inflates the glider run and then gets on air.
The para-motor Ramakant will uses is a small piston engine of 150 CC with propeller attached to a paraglider. Para-motor is very light that it can be attached to any Pilot or small machine, para-motors are normally used in photography, towing, petals / fertilizer dropping, and fun-flying. Para-motor can travel at the speed of 45 kmph and can claim altitude up to 10,000 feet above the sea level.
Ramakant also holds national records in powered hang gliding and has also been awarded the "Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2008" for his outstanding achievements in the field of aero sports.

A four day joint exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) concluded today at Air Force Station Jamnagar. The exercise, named “Ex Eastern Bridge - 2011” marks the second of the series, the first was held in Oct 2009 wherein six IAF Jaguars had operated at RAFO Thumrait, Oman. It is the first time that the RAFO Jaguars have participated in a Joint exercise held in India.

The RAFO contingent comprised of six Jaguar aircraft and 115 personnel. The IAF’s Jaguars and MiG 29s based at Jamnagar have participated in the exercise.

Recently, this section of the museum was inaugurated by acting Indian High Commissioner to UK, Rajesh Prasad,

Ranjit Singhji, whom all Jamnagar loves even today, was prince of Jamnagar and had changed the city to make as Paris of Saurashtra. He was a Test cricketer who played for the English cricket team and county cricket for Sussex. The museum is also celebrating 100 years of the first visit to Hove by an official Indian team, in 1911.
Infect India's most glorious domestic cricket tournament, Ranji Trophy is named after this classy cricketer. Rob Broddie, a librarian at the museum said Ranjit Singhji was closely associated with Sussex for several years. Praising the late cricketer, Broddie said he was a great benefactor of the club and often invited English players to his palace in India. "He was so generous to the club, a great benefactor and he was always inviting English players to his palace in India and the players would go out there and he would treat them royally," added Broddie. The Sussex Cricket Museum has been allocated more space to facilitate the display of rare memorabilia of Ranjit Singhji and other revered Indian cricketers who have visited and played at the Sussex cricket grounds.

Three day long Global Bird Watchers Conference ended on Friday with Narara hiking and Pirotan excursion, foreigners were excited to see diversified flora and fauna of the Gujarat state and especially of Jamnagar. Bird watchers from far west and Europe were thrilled to see that excellent marine biology exists just beside a well maintained aquatic bird reserve Khijadia.

Khijadia was main attraction of the conference, around 400 visitors spotted more then 180 species of birds in Khijadia, many writers and bloggers commented appreciation for this wonderful place.

Khijadia Bird Sanctuary is a unique wetland area with sea water on one side and fresh water on one side. This area which is about 12 km from Jamnagar (Gujarat), was declared as a Sanctuary on 6th November 1982. Before independence, a check dam had been built for storing the waters of the Ruparen river just near the sea, so gradually over the years with fresh water of the rain and river on one side and salt water of the sea on the other side, a unique area came up where both varieties of vegetation came up, gradually, birds and animals also started flocking and roosting here.

The area of this Sanctuary is 605 Hectares. There are 3 Watch Tower for bird watchers, as well as inspection paths leading deep into the foliage There are also provisions for Paddle boats, in the main as well as the Jamnbuda watch tower area.

One can find both types of sea and shore birds. Watching the arrival of the Cranes during sunset for roosting is a fantastic experience.

Some of the notable birds found here are Black Ibis, Black-winged Kite, Brahminy Kite, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Great Thick-knee, Common Greenshank, Grey Francolin, Imperial Eagle, Indian Pond Heron, Little Tern, Black-tailed Godwit, Comb Duck, Common Crane, Common Teal, Dunlin, Garganey, Marsh Harrier, Northern Pintail, Shoveler, Eurasian Wigeon, Pale Harrier, Demoiselle Crane, Sanderling and Darters.

The other wild life found here are Blue Bulls, Jackal, Wolf, Jungle Cat, Mongoose, Rabbits, Cobra, etc.

Water Reservoirs around Jamnagar: The dams around Jamnagar like Vijarkhi Dam, Ranjit Sagar Dam, Sasoi Dam, Sinhan dam are also wonderful spots for bird watching. Early morning as well as evening times are great for watching birds. These places are also very popular picnic spots for the local people.

Charakhala Salt Pans: The Charakhala salt pan area on the way to Dwarka is a place where there are a lot flamingos, pelicans, Grebes, ducks, terns, etc. The best times for visiting are the early morning and the evenings where one can see flocks of as big as thousands of birds at one time.

Narara Island: This island is the most accessible island in the Gulf of Kutch. One just has to drive down to it. Here one should reach just before the tide starts, when the tide comes in, it brings the birds closer to land, making it easier for the bird watchers to watch from quite close. The star here is the Crab Plover. All types of waders can be found here.

Pirotan Island: One of the islands in the 42 islands of the gulf of kutch which is famous for its corals and beaches and also a popular spot for bird lovers. The island has a light house and one can find as many wader birds. Overnight stay here can yield a fantastic birding experience.

Lakhota Lake: This lake has about 75 species of birds. Walking in the early mornings especially in the winter months & sitting under the beautiful domes allows you to experience nature with the birds.

Jamnagar coastline is biggest coastline in India in terms of length and hence has the only Marine National Park in the country,

Bhavnagar based CSMRI recently found around 93 new species of florals near Vadinar, this area is in close proximity to Pirotan and Narara Island in Jamnagar.

Of these 93 species around 13 are found first time rest 80 species are found elsewhere in the world but not near Jamnagar. These species are variety in sea-weeds.

Several villages in downstream of Sani dam are now swamped with three- to five-feet deep water.

On Wednesday one of the gates of Sani dam broke open due to heavy rain. Sani dam is the main source of drinking and agri water for Kalyanpur and Dwarka talukas.

Around 25,000 people from 15 villages have been evacuated so far, thse villages includes Ranparada, Rawal, Suryawadar, Chandrawada, Ashiyavadar, Kanpar, Sheradi, Jepur, Dangarwad, Chur, Chappar, Gorana, Devaliya, Gandhavi and Chasalana

Repair work is still in progress, however if things does not finish on time, soon the dam will be emptied.

Bird watchers' global meet - Khijadia

The three-day 'Global Bird Watcher's Conference' will be held in Khijadia from November 25. About 100 participants from abroad and different parts of the state are expected to attend the conference.

Officials in the tourism department said that the conference was being planned in order to put Khijadia on the global map to make it a tourist attraction. Also, the conference will be held during that time of the year when migratory birds are found in large numbers.

Khijadia is the only place where fresh water and sea water is found. It also witnesses about 250 different species of bird flocking here every year.

While tourism department officials said Khijadia falls on way to Dwarka and is just 15 km away from Jamnagar and so this route which is in bad shape will be repaired soon.

Khijadia Bird Sanctuary Its a unique wet land area with sea water on one side and fresh water on one side. This area was declared as a Khijadia Bird Sanctury on 6th November 1982. Before independence, a check dam had been built for storing the waters of the Ruparen River just near the sea, so gradually over the years with fresh water of the rain and river on one side and salt water of the sea on the other side, a unique area came up where both varieties of vegetation came up, gradualy, birds and animals also started flocking and roosting here. this is also one of the few sanctuaries in peninsular India where the Crested Grebe breeds.

Cricketer Ranjitsinhji's Royal Antiques Recovered

Thieves who stole royal antiques of famous cricketer Jam Ranjit Sinhji from Jam Saheb Bunglow were caught yesterday. Surendranagar LCB and Rajkot RR cell arrested all five members of the loot gang. Several precious jewellery, gems, antiques and cash of around Rs 5 lakh has been recovered. All identified are from Porbandar / Jamnagar district, mostly lives in Surendra nagar. Surendranagar SP said that they were arrested during regular vehicle inspection on the Rajkot-Limbdi highway. Few stolen items were in the vehicle and rest at their place. The looters didn't knew what they had looted.

What is disturbing that this gang has been stealing regularly from the palace since seven - eight months and looted the palace almost 25 times, Current king and scion of Jamnagar Royal family and descendant of cricketing legend Jam Ranjitsinhji, Jam Saheb Shatrushailya will send an inventory list to police and then police will value the recovered booty.

JAMNAGAR The city is known to be birds paradise, especially in the winter. However, in winter also comes the festival of Uttarayan, which brings along with it, the danger of razor-sharp manjas which pose a danger to these birds.

Jamnagar has become the first city to implement it. There are more than 327 species of birds found in and around Jamnagar, which includes both domestic and migratory birds. There are endangered species also which regularly visit Jamnagar. Furthermore, the city lake, situated in the middle of the city, becomes home to around 98 species of winged visitors during winter. The entire area turns into a bird watcher's paradise.

A bird lover who never misses to take a round of the lake. Another lover and expert on birds Jaypalsingh Jadeja said, "There are 98 species of birds one can spot at Lakhota lake. Wigeons, Mallard, Pin Tail, Gargani, Common Teal, Tefted Pochard, Common Pochard, Gadwa and many other migratory ducks, shovellers which fly in from Europe."

Tartear which is common for us but a rare bird to watch, Black-Necked Stark which is endangered species list and the bird like Great Crested Greebe, which is found round the year are also seen in Khijadiya bird sanctuary on the outskirts of the city. Sometimes they can be spotted on outer areas as well, where even Flamingos and White Pelicans can be spotted.

Looters are on the prawl in Jamnagar and this time they stole antiques worth over Rs four crore from Jamnagar Royal Family.

The list also features a very high priced antique cricket bat of Ranjitsinhji Maharaj.

The news broke out when security personnel of the Royal Palace informed police about the robbary. Crime scene investigation reveals that the thieves could be inside the palace since a fortnight.

The booty stolen by unidentified men is worth 4 crores.

Jamnagar Police had confirmed that Ranjitsinh's famous bats are safe. A team of special officers and a DIG level official confirmed the news.

Although the officials confirmed the burglary, but said that the bat and other heirlooms of the Cricket King is safe.

Shashidhar told TOI the burglars did not touch the section where the bats or gemstones were kept. According to him, the burglary happened at least 15 days back. "The burglars removed a huge glass pane and just walked into the palace," he said.

Shashidhar said that the damage was not assessed because the scion of the royal family, Shetrushailyasinh Jadeja, was away in Mumbai.

Police have also found chilly powder, bottles of soft drinks and knives, which shows that burglars may have been living on the terrace of the palace for some time.

Sports minister MS Gill was saddened by the news of burglary in Ranjitsinhji's palace in Jamnagar. Even though it was learnt on Tuesday that the bats and some other valuables are now safe, Gill sounded angry that such priceless bats and other artifacts had been left to rot.

"It is painful to see that such priceless items are not being cared for. They are our nation's treasure and should be in a museum," Gill told TOI.

Gill, who had visited the palace some years ago, said that he had written earlier that the cricket board (BCCI) should look into issue and convince the owner to let them take care of it, or let the Ambanis care for it. Gill said: "I went to the new palace and felt terrible after seeing valuable historic bats, photographs and paintings rotting in empty halls."

The train no 2905A/2906A Okha Hapa Howrah Link Express will be linked to the existing train no 2905/2906 respectively.

The train no 2905A will leave from Okha three days a week Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 5.05 am and reach Hapa at 8.52 am and Howrah on the third day at 3.35 pm. Train 2906A will leave Howrah every Friday, Saturday and Tuesday at 10.55 pm and reach Hapa at 3 pm and Okha at 7.50 pm on the third day.

This train will pass by Dwarka, Khambhaliya, Jamnager and Hapa. It will have one AC coach, two sleeper coaches and one general coach.

Jamnagar (Gujarat), Eleven people, including seven women, were killed when a Mumbai-bound express train rammed into an auto-rickshaw at an unmanned railway crossing near here today, police said.

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has framed regulations for integrated townships to be set up in urban areas to encourage large housing projects which can offer quality houses at competitive prices in the state, officials said on Monday.

The regulations will be announced shortly, officials in the urban development department said.

As per the regulations framed by the urban development department, private developers can build residential townships in the seven municipal corporation and urban development authorities areas like Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Junagadh.
